The affect of ethnicity in poverty-alleviation achievements (A study in Muong’s area, Phu Tho province)

Abstract

Considering the cause of poverty is one of the most important issues when we conduct studies related to poverty-alleviation. Many people suppose that poverty is caused by subjective factors such as a shortage of land, inequality in the appropriation of resources, a shortage of labor, etc. This article, however, considers some objective factors, meaning from the poor themselves. From the evidence, the author suggests that the habits of natural resource exploitation, dependence on the others, laziness, and unplanned expenses, are the main causes of poverty.
