A sketch of conflicts in villages and commune leaders’ present day conflict resolution practices illustrated through a case study in Yen Thuong commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi capital.

Abstract

According to the results of social surveys in the Innovation period, there have been new internal conflicts.  These internal conflicts are a  result of the market economy environment and include land disputes, land encroachment in housing construction, unfair inheritance division and conflicts in spousal relationship due to factors such as economic inequality and new lifestyles. In such a social situation, the solution to these conflicts is initially through conciliation followed by legal action if conciliation fails.
