Abstract

The author analyses the natural resources of mountainous areas occupied by ethnic minorities in our country. However with poor education, lack of capital funding and information, and the slow development of a market economy are obstacles to maintaining and enhancing natural resources and to promoting self-sufficiency. In order to have sustainable protection of the environment, we need to involve the communities. Besides, we must understand the ethnic minority’s culture so that we can make the best use of their indigenous knowledge in using, protecting and managing the natural environment.
