There are more than 1 million Khmer people living in the South. Their socio-economic development has been influenced by Buddhism principally through the education system in which members of community, mostly men, receive education in pagodas. The paper has drawn the actual socio-economic situation of Khmer community in this region, especially the rate of poor household still stands at 20%. To tackle this problem, the author has proposed economic development model in 3 sub-ecological regions: West of Hau River, Ca mau peninsula and coastal area.
