Abstract
The increase of Protestant adherents in Hanoi in recent years reflects notable transformations in religious life and calls for more in-depth research into the motivations for conversion. Based on survey data that was conducted with Protestant clergy and new Christian converts, this article analyzes the causes that underlie the conversion process in an urban context. The findings indicate that conversion is a multidimensional process, shaped by the interplay between spiritual needs and secular motivations. Accordingly, the study contributes to clarifying the characteristics of religious choice and conversion among a segment of the contemporary urban population.
