Evaluation of liver-protective and antioxidant effects of Gynostemma burmanicum King ex Chakrav var. molle C.Y.Wu. in Vietnam
Abstract
As Jaogulan (Gynostemma) is a precious natural plant resource for health-protective therapy, hepatoprotective effects of saponins from Gynostemma burmanicum (King ex Chakrav) were studied in term of liver protectivity in mice with paracetamol-induced hepatic imparaments. The saponins at the oral doses enquivalent to 4 g and 20 g of herbs per 1 kg b.w of mice remarkably decreased the serum concentration of AST, ALT and the liver histopathologycal injuries, as well. The saponins showed antioxidant affects by decreasing MDA concentration of the homogenized liver masses of mice.
