Open source for environmental sustainability and response to climate change

Abstract

Ensuring environmental sustainability and responding to climate change are major challenges facing humanity today, including Vietnam. A report published in early 2023 by the authors Augspurger, Malliaraki and Hopkins titled “Open Source in Environmental Sustainability: Preserving Climate and Natural Resources with Openness” gave us a deep and informative analysis on this subject. The report described in details an open source ecosystem for environmental sustainability that has emerged in recent years along with the issues involved in maintaining and growing it to support the environmental sustainability and response to climate change. Many topics were directly related to us and can be completely applied in Vietnam. In this paper, we summarized the main findings of the above report and suggested how we can participate, take advantage of and contribute to this ecosystem.
