Sustainable tourism development in the context of industry 4.0: an exploratory study from Vietnam

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 (The Industrial Revolution 4.0 or The Fourth Industrial Revolution 4IR) emerged and changed the structure of the economy, the manufacturing enterprises, and the service providers transformed their business methods, from the traditional model to the smart production model, automation, and digitization. Tourism is one of the first fields to digitize business processes on a global scale, making online booking of flights, tours, hotels, online payment, and check-in procedures have become and are becoming the pioneering field of applying the achievements of the 4.0 revolution. The article provided an overview, using qualitative research methods, synthesizing, analyzing, and evaluating the views on Industry 4.0 associated with sustainable tourism development and environmental protection, assessing the current situation of application in Vietnam, and proposing appropriate solutions.
