Survey on the situation of antibiotic prescribing in outpatient treatment at Tan Phuoc District medical center, Tien Giang Province

Abstract

The current overuse and improper use of antibiotics has led to antibiotic resistance and caused serious harm to health of community and medicine. Describe and determine the correct prescribing rate according to Circular 52/2017/TT - BYT of the Ministry of Health on administrative procedures. Analysis and identification of factors related to the incorrect prescription of antibiotics according to regulations of the Ministry of Health. The study was conducted retrospectively, collecting results based on information collection forms at Tan Phuoc District Medical Center, Tien Giang Province. The prescriptions in the medical records were written during the study period from January 2021 to December 2021. The total actual sample size obtained during the study period was 430. About the characteristics of the prescribers: Men account for 64.9%, women account for 35.1%; age < 50% accounts for 66.7%, age ≥ 50 accounts for 33.3%. Regarding the level of prescribers, it was found that the prescriber was out of a total of 37 doctors, 59.3% of general practitioners and 40.7% of specialist doctors. 100% of prescriptions had full information on administrative procedures. The highest rate of prescriptions for 4 to 6 drugs was 76.4%. The way to write information on prescriptions at the center was always consistent with the way to write 100% according to Circular 52/TT-BYT. The information related to the doctor's instructions for using the drug for patients was very complete with 100%. The group of antibiotics chosen by doctors the most was the penicillin group, accounting for 49.5%, followed by the cephalosporin group with 43.5%, the lowest was the quinolone group at 7%. Percentage of prescriptions using antibiotics as prescribed by MOH 95.3% and 4.7% incorrectly.
