Fostering sustainable and resilient tourism for the Vietnamese Mekong delta: Mission - oriented innovation policy
Abstract
In the current era, known as the “new normal”, the importance of sustainable and resilient tourism in the face of climate change has become increasingly apparent. As a result, it is necessary to take drastic measures to readjust and rationalize public policies and investments in this sector. These policies should be developed through cross-sectoral collaboration and coordination between various stakeholders, including the public sector, private sector, and community initiatives. Furthermore, it is important to recognize the potential of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the tourism industry. To this end, this study proposes a Mission-Oriented Innovation Policy road mapping framework (MOIP) for the mission of “Sustainable and Resilient Tourism Development”. The article serves as a case study, demonstrating the application of the MOIP approach in developing policies for sustainable tourism in Vietnam and the Mekong Delta region.
