Adaptation strategies for the impacts of climate change on sustainable tourism development in the context of globalization and the fourth industrial revolution: a case study in the Mekong Delta region, Vietnam
Abstract
Climate change (CC) is a pressing global issue, and Vietnam's Mekong Delta region is expected to be one of the areas most severely affected by it. The region has already seen the impact of CC on livelihoods and tourism activities. In light of this, a survey was conducted among 400 residents living in areas affected by climate change in the Mekong Delta region. The results of the research are encouraging, as the majority of respondents have a correct understanding of CC and believe that it can be addressed through specific adaptation strategies. Among these strategies, those related to communication, the application of 4.0 technology in management, and empowering local communities through monitoring and supervision were highly rated for their effectiveness. While this study did not cover all adaptation strategies in various fields, the findings contribute to the development of a system for planning sustainable tourism strategies that can adapt to the changing conditions in the Mekong Delta region in the future.
