Abstract

Offensive operations against enemy forces that have broken into the defensive positions constitute a fierce, intense, and complex phase in the conduct of divisional defensive operations. In order to seize and firmly retain the initiative in destroying the enemy and to regain lost positions, an infantry division must rapidly reconfigure its combat disposition and make timely adjustments to the organization, disposition, and employment of its forces in accordance with the enemy situation, own forces, and the terrain of the combat area.
