APPLY A CAPACITY ‑ BASED GROUP STRATEGY IN COOPERATIVE WRITTEN CLASS TO ENHANCE WRITTEN SKILLS OF NON ‑ ENGLISH STUDENTS AT HANOI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Cooperative learning is applied when students are assigned into small groups to work together, which helps them improve their learning proficiency by interacting with one another. In an English writing class, Cooperative writing is carried out via such activities as pairwork writing, groupwork writing and/or peer assistance throughout the writing process. When it comes to Cooperative writing, many grouping strategies have been suggested including the two ability grouping strategies: Homogeneous grouping and Heterogeneous grouping. The article provides an overview of Cooperative learning and Cooperative writing, benefits and drawbacks of the two aforementioned grouping strategies, hence to propose a process as well as specific activities that are applicable to enhance the writing skill of nonEnglish major students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
