RESEARCH ON CREATING PATTERNS ON TRADITIONAL COSTUME OF THE PHU LA PEOPLE IN LAO CAI PROVINCE
Abstract
Patterns, intricate decorative motifs, are commonly drawn, carved, or engraved onto various objects. They often bear a unique regional or national identity. Beyond their association with ancient traditions, festivals, and written forms, patterns serve as significant conduits for expressing a country's cultural heritage and civilization. With a diverse array of ethnic groups, the art of adorning traditional Vietnamese costumes with patterns has flourished, reflecting both the labor‑intensive craftsmanship and the aesthetic perspectives of the nation. Notably, in Lao Cai, the Phu La ethnic group showcases a rich system of traditional costume patterns imbued with profound symbolic meanings. Each symbol meticulously positioned on these costumes encapsulates the unique concepts and philosophies of the local community.
