VIETNAMESE FINE ARTS BETWEEN TRADITION AND GLOBALIZATION꞉ SOME THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES
Abstract
This article analyzes the interaction between traditional fine arts and the impact of globalization on Vietnamese
art. In the context of globalization, Vietnamese artists face the challenge of preserving and promoting national
cultural identity while integrating with international art. The article clarifies the concepts of "tradition" and
"cultural identity" and discusses the impact of globalization through concepts such as "hybrid art" and "open
identity". Traditional Vietnamese fine arts, including Dong Ho paintings, Hang Trong paintings, lacquerware,
and silk paintings, are facing the need for preservation and innovation to adapt to the new era. Artists such as
Nguyen Manh Hung, Dinh Q. Le, and Tiffany Chung are typical examples of combining traditional materials
with modern artistic language, expanding the influence of Vietnamese art globally. Through this, the article also
emphasizes the importance of art education in combining tradition and globalization. There is a need for
improvements in teaching methods to help students deeply understand national cultural values while absorbing
international art trends, creating new opportunities for Vietnamese fine arts in the context of globalization.
