CONTEMPORARY VIETNAMESE NOVELS꞉ CHARACTERISTICS AND TRENDS

Abstract

This paper examines the demand for and expressions of poetic innovation in Vietnam during the 1920s. By
systematizing contemporary conceptions of poetry and innovation, incorporating newly identified documents,
and analyzing practices of poetic experimentation, the study highlights the significance of these early reformist
efforts. It argues that the innovative poetry of this period laid an essential foundation for the emergence of the
New Poetry Movement (19321945), shaping its role, meaning, and contribution to the renewal of Vietnamese
literature.
