SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN THE WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE SITE OF LUANG PRABANG, LAO PDR, UNDER UNESCO POLICIES

Abstract

The World Cultural Heritage city of Luang Prabang is renowned for its numerous scenic landscapes; therefore,
sustainable environmental protection is one of the essential tasks in the process of heritage management.
Environmental protection activities have been implemented across various aspects, including the preservation
water resources, riverbank planning, safeguarding of mountain ranges and waterfalls, and development
planning for the floodplains along the Mekong River. To ensure sustainable environmental protection in the
future, it is necessary to adopt policies focusing on strategic planning, human resource training, financial
investment, community participation, and the promotion of international cooperation. These measures
contribute to enhancing the long‑term effectiveness of environmental protection within the heritage context.
