MEASURES FOR INCORPORATING THEN SINGING INTO EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY ‑ HÀ GIANG CAMPUS

Abstract

Then singing is a unique form of musical performance art, closely tied to the spiritual life of the Tay and Nung
ethnic communities in Ha Giang. It embodies profound values of history, belief, and folk wisdom, and is
regarded as a way of communicating with deities or praying for protection and good fortune. Nowadays, under
the influence of cultural exchange, Then singing is at risk of fading, as it attracts little attention from the younger
generation. Therefore, integrating Then singing into university teaching is considered a solution to preserve and
sustain the cultural values of Vietnamese folk music. In this article, the author presents research on Then
singing, teaching methods and approaches, as well as the current situation and solutions for teaching Then
singing in extracurricular classes for students at Thai Nguyen University ‑ Ha Giang Campus
