VIETNAMESE PERCUSSION IN THE ENSEMBLE WORK “SUMMER”

Abstract

The ensemble work “Summer” composed by Duc Dung and Duc Loi was premiered by the Phu Dong Percussion Troupe in 1982. Following the music, the audience could explore various paintings of the summer in Northern Vietnam. Different timbres of the Vietnamese traditional percussion instruments were blended to describe the sounds of insects and nature in the summer time. This work has taking Vietnamese traditional percussions out of their acting environment that has existed for generations and is a success on promoting the Vietnamese traditional percussion in the new experimental composing and performing direction not only dosmetic but also international.
