Abstract

The
art
of
shaping
horses
during
the
Le
Trung
Hung

period
(1533–1789)
is
one
of
the
highlights
in

Vietnamese
ancient
sculpture.

This
is
one
of
the
periods

when
horses
have
the
largest
number
of
sculptures,
the

most
beautiful
and
strongest
shapes.

Folk
sculptors
have

created
large‑sized
stone
horses
with
a
combination
of

both
symbolic
and
realistic
art.

Even
though
the

anonymous
artists
who
built
pagodas,
temples,

mausoleums,
etc.,
along
with
the
system
of
worship

statues,
did
not
proactively
leave
their
information
and

works,
the
ancient
craftsmen's
guilds
created
a
lasting

cultural
identity
through
the
image
of
stone
horses
in

Vietnamese
fine
art
during
the
feudal
period
in
general,

and
during
the
Le
Trung
Hung
period
in
particular.
