OUTLINE OF VIETNAMESE ART SONGS

Abstract

In the history of world music, art songs originated from Europe and during the Romantic music period, took a turn to become an independent academic genre, standing side by side with instrumental music, affirming its position in music with the meaning of a song genre with high artistic value required to have instrumental accompaniment. In Vietnam, the term art song began to appear around the mid­20th century along with the formation of a professional music industry and it has made significant contributions to the country's vocal music.
