SHAPES AND DECORATIONS ON BRONZE DRUMS DONG SON IN VIETNAM
Abstract
Bronze drums in Vietnam have existed for more than 2000 years and created a historical mark on the Bronze Drum culture of the Dong Son period. Since then, bronze drum culture has entered the lives and minds of Vietnamese people. Bronze drum culture entered spirituality and national beliefs through legendary stories recorded in Viet Dien U Linh (1029), Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu (1479), Linh Nam Trich Quai (1492‑1493). Types of bronze drums are also extremely diverse. Many scientists have classified bronze drums more than a century ago. Classification criteria are also diverse. Usually classified based on shape and pattern. Sometimes classified by geographical region. The content of this article will focus on researching the shaping characteristics and decorative patterns on Dong Son bronze drums, specifically the Heger type II bronze drums discovered in Thanh Hoa area where the Muong people live. Currently, these bronze drums are kept at the Vietnam History Museum and the Thanh Hoa provincial museum.
