EDUCATING FAMILY CULTURAL VALUES THROUGH NATIONAL LITERATURE TEXTBOOKS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN VIETNAM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Abstract
National Literature Textbooks are Vietnamese language textbooks published since the 1930s, taught in elementary schools throughout Vietnam during the first half of the 20th century. The textbooks incorporated a wealth of historical and social knowledge, spanning from tradition to modernity, and conveyed ethical values from East to West. The lessons in these textbooks contributed to nurturing foundational knowledge and shaping behaviors in family, school, and societal contexts.
In this article, we focus on the issue of researching family cultural education through the National Literature Textbook series with the aim of analyzing Confucian educational values regarding family culture in traditional Vietnamese culture. This analysis seeks to assess the role of Confucianism in family moral education in contemporary Vietnamese life within the current context of globalization.
