CULTURAL AREA – FACTOR AFFECTING THE THEATRE AUDIENCE

Abstract

A cultural area is formed by the impact of many factors such as the natural environment, the production activities of the population, ethnic factors, and the level of socio-economic development. The article compares the differences in
natural environment, production activities, economy, etc., which have contributed to create the difference between of the Northern Delta and the South cultural areas. The differences between these two cultural areas are one of the factors leading to the difference in characteristics and needs of the theatre audience in Hanoi and Hochiminh City. Therefore, environmental analysis, including analysis of cultural factors and characteristic of cultural area, in theory as well as practice shows that it is very necessary for making audience development strategies for cultural and arts organization in general and theatre in particular.
