Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the results of ultrasound guidance in supporting the placement of infusion chambers for cancer patients at Bach Mai Hospital.

Subjects: 260 cancer patients were placed the infusion chamber under ultrasound guidance from January 2022 to April 2023.

Methods: Prospective descriptive study.

Results: The mean age of the population was 56 years old, most of the patients were diagnosed at late stage III and stage IV (86.2%). The accuracy rate of central venous exploration under ultrasound guidance was 100%. 96.2% of the patients received an infusion chamber with the catheter entering the lumen in the right internal jugular vein. The average time to complete the technique was 13.8 minutes. 1.9% of the patients had a hematoma at the insertion site. Bleeding at the incision site was recorded in 2 (0.7%) patients. All patients were very satisfied with the technique.

Conclusion: Placing the infusion chamber under ultrasound guidance helps to shorten the execution time, limit the complications, as well as contribute to satisfaction and improve the quality of life of the patients
