Key factors affecting the digital transformation of scientific journals
Abstract
The article studies the factors affecting the digital transformation of scientific journals
in the landscape of current technological development. By using a mixed methods research
design including quantitative survey questionnaires and qualitative in-depth interviews
with experts, the study identified four key groups of factors: (1) digital transformation
strategy, a factor that helps guide and underpin the entire process; (2) organizational
and professional alignment, a factor that helps ensure effective coordination between
departments within the journal; (3) digital infrastructure and digital platforms, factors
that help deploy digital publishing systems; and (4) the role of authors, reviewers and
readers, who are central actors in the scientific publishing ecosystem. The findings serve
as the basis for building an effective digital transformation model for academic journals.
