Overview on seismic attribute analysis andsome results for clastic reservoirsin Cuu Long and Malay Tho Chu basin
Abstract
In recent years, the applicationof seismic attribute in oil and gas exploration and development has been carried out in many of sedimentary basins in Vietnam, provided significant benefits, improving seismic interpretation, and supporting oil and gas exploration and development. This paper provides an overview of seismic attributes and the methodologies using these groupsof attributes, such as amplitude analysis, amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis, and seismic inversion. These techniques support identifying subsurface geological features, help understanding reservoir properties, and predicting the distribution of reservoirs. The paper focuseson clastic reservoirs, which are a key exploration target in Vietnam, and presents the results of seismic attribute analysis from several oil and gas projects (project X1 –Cuu Long Basin and project X2 –Malay –Tho Chu Basin). These results highlight thesuccesses and challenges in applying seismic attribute analysis to exploration, particularly in delineating potential hydrocarbon-bearing zones. Based on the research findings, the paper proposes some solutions and recommendations to improve the application of seismic attributes in future exploration and development projects
