Comlexity in the epic poem Nhung nguoi di toi bien by Thanh Thao

Abstract

Thanh Thao is one of the outstanding faces of modern Vietnamese literature. He composed persistently from the period of the resistance war against the U.S. imperialists for national salvation until today. The epic is the most successful genre in Thanh Thao’s literature, especially the epic poem Nhung nguoi di toi bien, a moving summary of the heroic resistance war against the Americans by the Vietnamese people. This article studies complexity as an important characteristic of the epic poem Nhung nguoi di toi bien. To write this article, the writer used research methods such as analysis, synthesis, typological research, and literary commentary. From there, we realized the polyphony of the epic Nhung nguoi di toi bien in the following aspects: symphonic inspiration, rediscovery of the human condition, multiple images, and multiple voices. Through this, we have a more objective and accurate view of poet Thanh Thao’s talent.
