The current status of stick-held falling net fisheries in Hai Phong city
Abstract
The results showed that stick-held falling net fisheries in Haiphong has been major fishing technology in offshore area, which has been created job and income for thousands of labors, contributed considerably into development of local fishery sector. The offshore fleets of stick-held falling net fisheries in Haiphong almost were made with wooden hull, following traditional samples. All fishing boats were equipped full marine equipment as well as communications that ensuring safety condition for offshore fishing operation. Age of labors worked on boat concentrated in age from 31 years old to 50 years old, whose age were at good health and enough experience for their works. However, education level of the fishermen was rather low, most of them graduated primary and secondary school, ratio of the fishermen graduated high school and up level was very low. This issue was a difficult thing in technological transferring and application of advanced scientific technology in fishing fisheries. Efficiency of fishing operation of the fleet of stick-held falling net fisheries was quite high, with average catch per unit effort (CPUE) reached at 698.55 ÷ 959.07 kg/boat/day. Average profit was about 340.45 ÷ 398.14 million VND/boat/year depending on group of boat length.
