The status of combating iuu fishing and its solutions at Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province
Abstract
The European Commission (EC) has released the commercial alerts "Yellow-Card" to IUU fishing activities in Vietnam on 23th Oct 2017 and gave 09 official recommendations for Vietnam in order to implement improvement activities on fisheries management. In addition, DG MARE from EC has visited Vietnam for two times in May 2018 and Nov 2019 to consider improvements of Vietnam based on EC recommendations, in which Kien Giang province is selected for field inspections. However, the fishing vessels' violations still happen such as Kien Giang province had 79 violations in 2020 and 46 violations in 2021; Rach Gia city had 17 violations in 2020 and 16 violations in 2021. The violations on mesh size, fish size, fishing zones, logbook recording...still happen.
