Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of food (fresh algae, dry algae Spirulina, fresh algae combined formulated food) on survival rate, mature ability and biochemical composition of shortnecked clam in broodstock conditioning in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa. The results showed that the survival rate (87.04 ± 0.99%), fat index (35.54 ± 0.58%), condition index (58.34 ± 0.97%) and maturity rate (77.20 ± 2.04%) were highest in the fresh algae treatment, and significantly higher than those in other treatments. The biochemical composition increased with the highest value of lipid and protein (0.75 ± 0.019% and 11.81 ± 0.99%, respectively) were recorded in the fresh algae treatment and presented a significant difference among treatments (p<0.05). Our findings contributed knowledge for the broodstock conditioning and improving the efficiency of seed production of short-necked clam in Vietnam.
