Appling the extended Theory of Planned Behavior TPB to evaluate the intention to use urban railway of Hanoi people

Abstract

Developing public transport system is one of the effective solutions to reduce traffic congestion in big cities around the world. The article applies the extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to consider and evaluate factors affecting the intention to use urban railway of Hanoi people. Participants were a convenience sample of 268 urban railwayusers. The collected data were processed by SPSS 22.0 software. The results indicated that there were three factors affecting the intention to use urban railway of Hanoi people: “Attitude towards behavior” hada strongest impact on the intention to use with ????= 0.445; “The attractiveness of private vehicle” hada negative impact on the intention to use with ????= -0.160; “Descriptive Norm” wasthe final impact factor with ????= 0.141. The analysis results are valuable for the authorities to deal with reasonable policies and solutions to solve the traffic congestion, environmental pollution and noise pollution in the city, as well as contribute to spreading the benefits of this modern transportation to people living in Hanoi city.
