Analysis of rock masses behavior and shotcrete support with Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown failure criteria

Abstract

In underground construction due to the diversity of the rock mass and rock classification systems leading the different rock mass failure models are used to calculate and analyze the support system in the underground construction. The use of the criteria depends on the purpose of the evaluation and using the results in different application models. In this paper, the authors analyze and evaluate the two main standards that are most commonly applied, namely Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown, which are applied to the Deo Ca Road tunnel in the tunnel construction by NATM technology.
