Abstract
This article presents a study on determining the minimum dimensions of concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) that satisfy stability requirements for both centrally and eccentrically compressed columns, based on the concept of optimal slenderness ratio. The research develops formulas derived from relevant principles and design codes to ensure both local and global stability of CFST members. The cross-section of the member is considered in two forms circular and rectangular in order to determine the optimal slenderness ratio of the compression member in relation to dimensionless parameters. The findings provide a foundation for engineers to select initial cross-sectional dimensions of CFST members during the preliminary design stage.
