Enhancing students’ professional skills to meet the demands of improving training quality and human resource development in the new era: A survey at Quang Nam University

Abstract

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation, which are profoundly changing the structure of employment and the demands placed on workers, developing professional skills for students has become an urgent requirement. Based on an analysis of several theoretical issues concerning professional skills in the new era, this paper clarifies the current practice of organizing professional skills training for students at Quang Nam University through curriculum innovation, an increased number of practice-oriented courses, internship and career experience activities, the fostering of digital skills, as well as the cooperation between the university, enterprises and employers. Selected survey data from students are used to illustrate their level of participation, needs and difficulties in the process of developing professional skills. On that basis, the paper highlights the main achievements and limitations, and proposes several solutions to enhance the effectiveness of professional skills training for students, thereby contributing to improving training quality, increasing employment opportunities for learners, and improving the quality of human resources for society.
