Comparison, selection and proposing the evaluation criterias for green railway stations in Vietnam

Abstract

Green building assessment standards (GB) have been early developed and applied in some countries. In addition, assessment standards for green railway stations have also been developed based on the Green Building (CTX) assessment standards, however, the issuance of separate standards for the railway sector is still very limited in many countries, including Vietnam. The standards that are developed, issued and announced will contribute significantly to the green development strategy, environmental protection and the realization of the aim of “0” net emissions by 2050. In order to propose criteria for assessing green railway stations for Vietnam, it is necessary to first research, analyze and compare the CTX assessment standards and green railway passenger station assessment standards in some countries around the world. Therefore, this paper is conducted on the basis of a literature review to analyze and select evaluation criteria of standards including BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) of the UK, LEED –NC (Leadership In Energy & Environment Design) of the US, CASBEE (Comprehensive Assessment System for Building Environmental Efficiency) of Japan, ESGB (Environmental, Social, and Governance) of China and LOTUS (Local green and universal smart) of Vietnam. The comparison results show that the systems have certain similarities and differences based on the consideration of criteria on energy efficiency; water efficiency; materials/waste reduction; indoor environmentalquality; location and outdoor environment; management and other items. Then, first five criteria are selected for comparison and in-depth analysis. On that basis, the evaluation criteria for green railway stations in Vietnam will be proposed.
