Using SR4D application for road safety assessment of design road according to the standard of iRAP

Abstract

The comprehensive and system-based approaches of the international Road Assessment Program (iRAP) with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was applied in the UN Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety stage. Since 2009, road safety was assessed for national roads with total of 3,513 km as well as developed an investment plan to ensure high economic efficiency with reasonable solutions to improve road safety in Vietnam by approaches and methodologies from iRAP. However, road safety assessment was only conducted for roads under operation but not yet applied for designing roads. This paper presents results of applying SR4D application from iRAP to assess the Road Safety of detailed design of the national roads No.26 in Khanh Hoa province. The results of the study will become a basis for road safety assessment of detailed designing roads as well as propose necessary counter measures to adapt to requirement of the the National Strategy to ensure road traffic safety in the period 2021÷2030 and visionto 2045 of Vietnam.
