Abstract

Experiential and Career Guidance Activities (ECGA) constitute an educational component of significant importance in the 2018 General Education Curriculum. This study surveys the current state of student teachers’ competence in organizing these activities during their practicum in both lower- and upper- secondary schools, and proposes measures to strengthen that competence. The research data were collected through a survey of 65 students majoring in Natural Science Education and Chemistry Education who conducted experiential and career-oriented teaching activities, along with interviews with mentor teachers and school administrators, as well as classroom observations of actual lessons. The results indicate that most student teachers received active support from their supervising teachers; however, they remain limited in lesson-planning skills and in organizing educational activities. Assessing this competence during practicum placements is essential, as it provides empirical evidence for refining curricula, teaching methods, and assessment tools, while ensuring that pre-service teachers achieve the required professional learning outcomes
