LEADERSHIP STYLES AND EMPLOYEE’S ENGAGEMENT IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES AT HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

The article studies the influence of leadership style on employee engagement at information technology enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City. To achieve the research objectives, the article uses qualitative and quantitative research method based on the MLQ (Multifactor leadership questionaire) with 36 items of Bass and Avolio [2] and the engagement measurement of Tran Kim Dung and Abraham [6]. Cronbach's Alpha test, EFA test is used to measure the reliability of the scale and regression analysis is used to evaluate the influence of leadership style on employee engagement in information technology enterprises at Ho Chi Minh city. The results of the interview of 13 respondents and a survey of 202 employees showed that employee’s engagement at IT enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City is influenced by 5 leadership styles: 1) Management by exception – active with a coefficient 0.251; 2) Inspirational motivation with a coefficient 0.246; 3) Intellectual stimulation with coefficient 0.209; 4) Contingent reward with the coefficient 0.179; and 5) Individual consideration with a coefficient 0.161
