Awareness of Economic Security and Quality of Life among Residents in the Context of Livelihood Transformation in the Tea Industry: A Case Study in Tan Cuong, Thai Nguyen
Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of livelihood transitions in the tea industry on people's perceptions of quality of life in Thai Nguyen, focusing on the economic pillar within the Triple Bottom Line framework. Qualitative methods were employed through in-depth interviews with 18 residents directly involved in tea production in Tan Cuong. The results show that the increase in the economic value of tea has improved incomes, strengthened livelihood stability, and promoted asset accumulation, while also being linked to improvements in infrastructure and trading conditions. However, alongside these positive changes, residents also expressed concerns, reflecting the “dual nature” of the development process. This provides policy implications for local development that balances growth and welfare.
