Structuring local government to address the current needs

Abstract

The Resolution of the Sixth Conference of the 13^th Party Central Committee on “Continuing to build and improve the Vietnamese socialist rule-of-law state in the new period”, dated 09 November 2022, clearly mentioned the need of "improving the structure of local government so as to be suitable for urban, rural, mountainous, island areas and special administrative–economic units; appropriately reducing the level of local government in some localities; building specific governance models for each area". Contributing to the implementation of the Resolution, this article discusses the current state of Vietnam's local government, analyses some causes, and then proposes some standpoints and solutions to improve the structure as well as the quality of local government to address the current needs.
