Abstract

Government accountability to Parliament is a cornerstone of modern democratic states, requiring governments to report and explain its decisions, policies, and activities to its Parliament, and to rectify any errors discovered during this process. In Vietnam, as in many other countries, the government's accountability to the National Assembly is enshrined in law. However, its implementation in practice is still limited. This article critically examines the concept, nature, content, and methods of implementing government accountability to Parliament, both globally and in Vietnam. It then presents several solutions to improve the effectiveness of the Vietnamese government's accountability to the National Assembly in the coming years.
