Abstract

The final award of the Arbitral Tribunal on the East Sea disputes inthe Philippines v. China case has an important meaning for the parties of the case, especially in regard to historic rights. The paper offers an overview of the concept of historic rights and the content ofhistoric rights through an analysis of the practical application of historic rights of States and the relatedjudgements and awards of the international tribunals, including the award of the arbital tribunal on historic rights in the Philippines v.China case regarding the East Sea disputes.
