The role of the Vietnam People’s Navy in the resistance war against American imperialism to save the country
Abstract
On May 7, 1955, the Ministry of National Defense issued a Decree to establish the Coastal Defense Department - the predecessor of the Vietnam People’s Navy. By 1964, the Vietnam People’s Navy had made remarkable progress, contributing to strengthening the defense of the North, defeating the plots of destruction and blockade activities of the US imperialists, and at the same time creating a solid foundation for organizing strategic sea transport routes to support the Southern battlefield to defeat the war strategies of the US imperialism and the Saigon government. In particular, during the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, the Vietnam People’s Navy directly participated in the liberation of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago and coastal islands, contributing to the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
