Characteristics and traditional values in the marital customs of African ethnic groups

Abstract

Africa is a continent with many countries and ethnic groups, each with its own customs and rituals, including marriage customs. Although it is impossible to cover all ethnic groups, through analyzing and synthesizing secondary sources, the author identifies common characteristics in the marriage customs of ethnic groups in Africa. Thereby, the paper draws out the traditional values of this custom. The paper shows that the marriage customs of ethnic groups in Africa reflect their diverse, rich culture and long-standing traditional values.
