Results of production turmeric variety NTN2 in Thanh Hoa province
Abstract
Currently, turmeric production in Vietnam still mainly relies on traditional varieties and cultivation techniques, resulting in low productivity and economic efficiency. Therefore, the identification of turmeric varieties with high yield potential and good quality plays an important role in improving economic efficiency. On that basis, the NTN2 yellow turmeric variety, selected under a research program of the North Central Medicinal Materials Research Center was tested in production trials at two locations in Thanh Hoa. Research results show that the NTN2 tested varieties have good growth ability. Plant height, leaf area index, tuber size as well as heat tolerance, drought tolerance, resistance to green leafhoppers, mealybugs and field tuber rot are higher than the control varieties. The tuber weight of turmeric varieties in ecological regions fluctuates from 988,2 - 1391,7 g/clump, of curcumin content analysis indicate that NTN2 turmeric variety has a higher ucrcumin content than the local control variety.
