Trương Vĩnh Ký and his contributions to literature and journalism

Abstract

Truong Vinh Ky (1837-1898) was a great Vietnamese intellectual with erudite knowledge in many fields of East and West antiquity such as language, history, geography, culture, literature, and art, etc. He is a pioneering culturist and scholar who always try his best to remove all obstacles towards promoting Vietnamese literature in the Vietnamese language to develop and founded Vietnamese journalism in the late nineteenth century. In this article, on the basis of studying the works of Truong Vinh Ky and some research papers on him, the author focuses on analyzing and clarifying his contributions to Vietnamese literature and journalism.
