Overview of research literature on industrial tourism

Abstract

Industrial tourism is a growing segment of the tourism industry due to the huge potential of industry and the process of changing visitors’ demand. This paper studies the existing literature on industrial tourism and points out gaps in the studies. Narrative literature review is used to review and analyze literature on industrial tourism. The results indicate that the documents basically focus on clarifying 5 contents: (1) the concept of industrial tourism, (2) industrial tourism products, (3) benefits of industrial tourism, (4) conditions for industrial tourism development, and (5) industrial tourism de-velopment model(s). However, specific issues, the policy of industrial tourism development, seem to remain limited. Therefore, the paper offers future research directions for industrial tourism with an emphasis on the role of governmental policy in the development of industrial tourism today.
