Abstract

Reading is essential for personal development and knowledge acquisition, especially for English major students who enhance their language skills through diverse materials. However, a significant decline in reading habits has been observed among students. This study investigates the declining reading culture among English major students at a private university in the Mekong Delta, surveying 43 students. Findings reveal that about 30% lack a regular reading habit, with most reading only 1 to 3 books annually. Contributing factors include academic pressures, digital media consumption, and low motivation. The research emphasizes the need for educational institutions to promote reading through engaging programs and resources, highlighting its importance for language proficiency and knowledge development in the digital age.
