Abstract
This paper presents an approach to solving the optimal power generation dispatch problem
between thermal power and hydropower plants using nonlinear programming methods. The objective is
to determine the hourly generation schedule for thermal plants to minimize fuel costs while fully utilizing
the available hydropower energy, considering constraints on generator operation and load demand. A
nonlinear mathematical model is developed based on typical daily load curves, incorporating technical
and operational limitations of both thermal and hydropower units. Simulation results demonstrate the
method’s effectiveness and applicability in balancing cost and performance, offering a practical tool for
both engineering analysis and teaching.
